Volunteer and gap year placements in France
France is home to beautiful mountain ranges, meandering rivers and cosmopolitan cities, so it is easy to see why it’s one of the world’s most popular travel destinations. But France is a lot more than just beautiful scenery and lively towns. It is a Mecca for art and gastronomy and is famous for its laid back, yet passionate populace.
Based just outside Paris in the classic and beautiful French town of Maisons-Laffitte volunteers have an incredible opportunity to escape the guide book and get to know the real France. Making the most of their time there to practice the language and explore the area.

- Taking an active part in the dorm life, during the week and on certain weekends;
- Being responsible for children within the school in evening times whilst on boarding duties
- Organising weekend and evening activities for boarders
- Helping in school classes at all levels (lower, middle, and upper school)
- Leading sport, cultural, educational activities; (such as Photography Club, School Newspaper Club, etc.)
- Helping in the various administrative offices
- Assisting in Library Duties
- Accompanying school groups on outings and excursions
The role of a School Assistant in France is a varied one, in which volunteers will get to know the children they work with as well as experience a multitude of activities and responsibilities. It is a great placement for volunteers with a wide range of interests who are interested in France and or speaking French.
Accommodation and food
Accommodation is provided on site, at school. Accommodation is of a very high standard with access to many amenities. Food will be provided by the school and will often be taken in the school canteen.
Pocket money will also be paid by the host to the volunteer
Is it for me?
Volunteers looking to utilise a number of varied and different interests will find this placement for them. Particularly those that are learning or wish to improve their French, with lessons being provided by the school in exchange for their help with duties throughout the week.
The school is an international school with English being the main language, so fluent French is not needed. Yet it is used throughout the school on a daily basis so a basic understanding or a desire to learn is key – with effort being rewarded by interacting with locals when on outings or in free time.
Need to know
