Environment with English teaching
We currently offer unique experiences working in Ecuador’s Andean cloud forest. These placements offer volunteers a varied role working with a community of 64 families that have formed an association to preserve their environment, promote ecotourism and produce local products. Broadly-speaking, as a volunteer you will have two roles.
As English language skills are key to the economic survival of the community, one of your main responsibilities will be to teach English to adults and children in the village school. The second side to your role will be conservation-focused. Volunteers help with orchid and bromeliad identification and preservation, sowing, reforestation, clearing pre-Inca trails, harvesting and anything else related to the maintenance of the community’s organic garden. These are excellent placements for independent and outdoorsy volunteers interested in learning to live in harmony with the environment.

Environment with Caring
Our Conservation and Caring volunteers in Japan work in our host live-in school dedicated to the care of mentally disabled Japanese adults. Students mainly undertake agricultural work, including growing shiitake mushrooms along with grapes for the nearby winery.
Your duties will therefore involve a mix of caring for students and taking part in agricultural activities with them. As a volunteer you will help in a variety of ways, including taking care of the grape vines, cultivating shiitake mushrooms, taking part in assorted viticulture work, taking students to medical clinics for check-ups and helping in the rehabilitation of physically disabled students. These placements are perfect for volunteers looking to make a meaningful difference to the lives of people with special needs while gaining specialised knowledge of agricultural techniques.
Farming and Agriculture
As an environmental worker it is likely you would be placed on a farm on the northernmost island of Japan. You will be working along other local volunteers who live at the farm as part of a cooperative. You will be doing various general duties on the farm including cattle breeding and farming, as well as helping with the production and sale of the farms famous food and craft produce.

Malawi
Conservation and Agriculture
Our Conservation and Community Work volunteers in Malawi have the opportunity to get involved in a range of activities over the course of their placement. Working in Livingstonia in northern Malawi, volunteers will live in a house overlooking Lake Malawi and will help at and host Eco Farm and Lodge. Here you would assist with ongoing conservation projects, including education outreach programmes relating to permaculture, gardening, reforestation and nutrition.
There is also an opportunity to work on the local bee keeping project, teaching in nearby schools and volunteering in women’s groups depending on their interests. Under the wing of Hudson Chisambo — well-known locally for his bee-keeping skills — Conservation volunteers will gain some excellent experience working outdoors and on social work projects. Typical bee-keeping duties include harvesting, packing and selling honey.
