Competition winners 2011
We had some absolutely fantastic entries this year. But after a public vote these were the winners:
‘Spirit of the Country’ competition
1st prize: Laura volunteered in Malawi
“Malawi, Domasi Whilst visiting fellow volunteers Pat and Will at their lovely mud hut home.”
2nd prize: Charlie volunteered in Tanzania
“I love this picture, not just because it’s an amazing view (The Irente point ‘world view’ in Lushoto), but mainly because of the local man sat looking over the flat expanse of Africa and reflecting on something. Whatever that might be…”
3rd prize: Jess volunteered in Ghana
“This is Patrick, a ten year old boy, who I taught at Heavenly Home Academy. He was always ready with this winning smile, which pretty much sums up my Ghana experience.”
‘Your Turn Next’
1st prize: Katy volunteered in Vanuatu
“Ranwadi, Vanuatu”
2nd prize: Helen volunteered in Malawi
“Teaching Tazewa (one of the kids in the village) how to blow bubbles.”
3rd prize: Rebecca volunteered in Vietnam
“This photo sums up my lattitude experience! the lattitude volunteer in the photograph is Joseph Tomlinson, an australian who was placed in a university in ho chi minh city. joe and I were very different and had came from starkly different backgrounds, i’m sure we would never have met had it not been for lattitude but at the time of this photograph he was my best friend. His visit to our placement in Binh Hoa, gave him an opportunity to meet and work with younger vietnamese people. The vietnamese child on his shoulder was one of my lattitude partner, Lauren’s Grade 1 students, who liked to call me “Cau”(‘tall’ in vietnamese) and although i’m not sureof his real name i affectionately refered to him as “loon”(‘short’ in Vietnamese) whenever I see this photo i am reminded of how lucky I am to have been given such a wonderful opportunity, how wonderful the students at nguyen khuyen school were and how strong our ‘Lattitude family’(the group of volunteers placed in our area) was.”
