Since Lattitude Global Volunteering started as Gap Activity Projects in 1972, we have provided placements to around 30,000 young people across the world. Without our hosts, we would not be able to offer such exceptional opportunities to thousands of young people worldwide.
What is a host?
The host is the organisation in-country that receives our volunteers. We have developed partnerships with over 1000 hosts around the world, such as schools, universities, outdoor camps, literacy centres, community centres, aid organisations, orphanages and residential homes for elderly people or people with disabilities.
What can Lattitude Global Volunteering offer you?
In order for the volunteering experience to be successful, it is vital that both volunteer and host know what is expected from them.
- Quality Volunteers - Our selection system is structured to send the host motivated young people, who want to enter fully into the life of their new community and really make a contribution. We spend a great deal of time matching the skills and interests of our volunteers to the requirements of our hosts to ensure that both parties gain the maximum benefit.
- The Volunteers’ Commitment - our volunteers are committed to the programme and agree to remain at their placements until the specified departure date, taking part in extra-curricular activities and becoming part of the community within which they are volunteering.
- The Lattitude Global Volunteering Network - if problems arise the Local Representative or Programme Manager will provide support or assistance as needed. For volunteers we provide a 24 hour emergency phone and our staff are always available to assist in any eventuality.
- Responsible staff members – our volunteers have the maturity and capability to support and assist host organisations as a responsible member of the team.
What is expected of a host?
Hosting is simple, we ask hosts to provide a supportive environment for the volunteers and the same type of encouragement they would offer to other staff.
- Accommodation and food - hosts are expected to provide accommodation and food for our volunteers for the duration of their placement. This could be on site, home stay, within a shared flat or with another organisation that can offer on-site accommodation.
- Volunteer training – give appropriate training and support for duties the volunteers are being asked to perform during the placement
- Patience and understanding – especially during the first few days or weeks when the volunteers are adjusting to unfamiliar surroundings
- Provide insurance - our volunteers are requested to have their own insurance to cover the duration of their trip. Should a volunteer be required to undertake a task that may require insurance, for example driving a car or using machinery, it is the responsibility of the host to ensure that the volunteer is covered by insurance
