Not all hosts provide volunteers with pocket money. If pocket money is available it should be seen as a bonus. We ask that volunteers DO NOT take the pocket money into account or to expect it. It is NOT a salary for your work as volunteering is a donation of time. It is also entirely up to each host whether they can afford to pay volunteers and how much they may be able to afford, as such the amount a volunteer may receive varies. This being the case volunteers SHOULD NOT expect to receive equal amounts of pocket money in relation to fellow volunteers from other placements.

So how does it work?
As you can see from the above information there will be several things that you may need to budget for. We do not control some aspects of the cost. thing such as flights fluctuate and that is why we have placed a range on those items as so you can gauge from our previous volunteers’ experiences. However, to help you with your fundraising goals and to make the placements as affordable as possible, the payment plan of the Lattitude fee is set out to be as easy for you to pay as possible. With fundraising milestones built in to help you set goals and achieve your target. It is completely free to apply and to have an interview to see if you think we are the right organisation to for you.
Lattitude fee is broken down like this:
If you apply 7 months or more in advance of your departure (most people apply about a year in advance, strongly recommended):
To apply: Completely free
You can apply, have your interview and come along and meet us to make sure you are happy with us and our work and the support we can offer you, without any financial commitment.
After your interview: £250 deposit
We ask for a deposit of £250 as to secure your place. As at this moment our team of volunteer coordinators will start to work on your behalf we ask that you commit to the programme. At this stage our country managers will get involved and speak to you via Skype, hosts will be talked to and ‘the ball will begin to roll’. If volunteers are not sure they want to go ahead at this point it is unfair on our hosts and country managers who will be doing work on your behalf.
6 months prior to departure: £750 interim payment
This is your fundraising target milestone. At this point our Volunteer Coordinators will have been busy working with our in-country staff to match you up to a placement. Depending on how far in advance you have applied you can see this as a real goal for your fundraising.
3 months prior to departure: Remainder of Lattitude fee (£990 + any extras you may have bought through Lattitude, such as the Teaching Skills Course)
You will be invoiced for the remainder of the fee 3 months prior to going and as with the other invoices you will have a month to pay, meaning that the full fee would be paid at about 2 months prior to going!

To apply: Completely free
You can apply, have your interview and come along and meet us to make sure you are happy with us and our work and the support we can offer you, without any financial commitment. But please note, at this stage we will need to interview you very soon, as such we may have to have a telephone interview with you opposed to a face-to-face.
After your interview: £500 deposit
As there is very little time, we do not request an interim placement. instead we ask for a bigger deposit. At this stage we really need to know that a volunteer is committed as if they do pull pull out at this stage then it be unlikely we have enough time to replace them with someone else and our host misses out on having a volunteer
No interim payment
3 months prior to departure: Remainder of Lattitude fee (£1490 + any extras you may have bought through Lattitude, such as the Teaching Skills Course)
You will be invoiced for the remainder of the fee 3 months prior to going and as with the other invoices you will have a month to pay, meaning that the full fee would be paid at about 2 months prior to going!
