Yesterday start off with my parents taking me to Heathrow where we met the other SA13 volunteers The atmosphere in the group was nervous tense, but mostly filled with excitement. When the time came for us to separate from our perents, there were a few tears, but deep down everyone was strong! The waiting in the terminal was such a laugh, it really gave everyone a chance to get to know each other. when it came to walking all the way to Gate 31………a 25 minute walk away!!… me, John and Ian deiced to cheat and got ferried to the gate by a airport vehicle meant for the elderly…ahaha!
Finally it got to boarding time, and I was stuck in the middle of the middle row…but luckily I had a touchscreen TV with a selection over 100 movies to keep me company!! Overall the service on the plane was faultless!!! Had a fantastic journey, had dinner and breakfast provided and managed to get through 5 movies aha!! And the staff went above and beyond…..Thank you SA airways!!!!
We were greeted on the other side of the airport by Matt the country manager, we were straight away taken to our home for the next 4 days… ‘The Ritz Hostel’, which is awesome!! The foods great, weve got a massive room to our selves, great views, friendly brilliant staff, access to the internet, anddddddd A POOL!!! <win!!
We’ve had a great first day, Joburg is beautiful and everyone is so friendly!! The weather is so good, a cool 25 degrees, and not a cloud in the sky!! We’ve had a little tour, and had a few lessons about SA, which was followed by a brilliant SA chilly/baked potato type lunch on the hostels view point over looking the whole of Joburg. The second half of the day has consisted of shopping for teaching supply’s and a nice long swim! But Matt has just topped of our day by telling us that we will be at the FMB football stadium tonight watching South Africa Vs Algeria!!!!! Absolutly buzzin.
It’s been a great first day, there’s so much I could say about it, and the awesome people I’m with, but so little time aha!! But I’m sure I’ll make up for it!!
Until next time,
Chris

Hi Chris
Glad you are enjoying our South African hospitability. The stadium is called FNB stadium the atmosphere will be very different to the UK. You need to get yourself a vuluzela and make some noise. Have fun…
