What can you do Teaching

Spend your Lattitude volunteer gap year teaching a variety of subjects in countries where educational standards are low. You’ll draw upon your own education and devise creative ways to teach your students.

Lattitude has two types of volunteer teaching programs:

General Teaching

Spend your volunteer gap year teaching English, sport, music, art, drama, or another subject that you have a skill in at. You will be leading classes and some of our programs are suitable for all volunteers and some are particularly suitable for graduates and qualified teachers.

For those volunteers who are not teachers, there is the opportunity to take a teaching skills course before you leave. This course will prepare you to be able to effectively teach in the programs, where being a graduate is not a requirment.

The schools we work in are generally poorly resourced but full of students eager to meet our volunteers and work with them. The students and staff are keen to work with a new person from another part of the world, and our volunteers will often find themselves as something of a local celebrity!

Science Teaching

Teach Maths, Physics, or Chemistry on our unique teaching program. Use your science knowledge on one of our projects in Tanzania where there is an acute shortage of science teachers.

We have worked with the University of York to develop a program at the request of our overseas partners to support them in teaching these subjects.

All classes are taught in English and volunteers who join this programme should feel confident with in maths, physics or chemistry. They will not, in the first instance, be leading a class but will assist the teacher. This is a great way to put your sciences to work in an environment where they will really make a difference.
