Effective English skills have become a basic requirement for economic and social progress around the world. Many people want to learn English as it can increase their employment opportunities.
You may be teaching children or University students and in both cases volunteers find the pupils eager to learn English.
On some of our English projects, volunteers also assist with other development work. This enables you to give a “double” contribution to the community. You could be working with street children, or working in conjunction with a caring placement. There are many combinations of projects with English teaching and variety of our projects is as wide as your interests.
All we require is a good standard of spoken English. Some of the schools, however, will require our volunteers to complete a Teaching Skills Course before starting their work, which Lattitude organises in London or in country.
Teach English to Tibetans Refugees in India
Lattitude offers a unique opportunity to teach English in India to Tibetan Buddhist monks in the serene surroundings of a monastery. The students range in age from 5 to 25 years old, so there may be plenty of opportunities to bring variety to your teaching.
All our placements are in the hill stations of Dharamsala, Dehra Dun and Darjeeling – attractive locations with a climate not unlike that of the UK. Most of the work as a language assistant is in classes of varying ages and abilities, from the very young pre-primary (usually in classes) to the adult (often in one-to-one tuition out of school hours). In some placements there may also be opportunities to teach other subjects, such as maths, art and drama, computer skills and basic science. In some monasteries, football and cricket are in demand and Volunteers with unusual skills (such as karate, for example) will usually find students keen to learn.
Teach English and Music in Ecuador
In Ecuador we offer an exceptional program of teaching English for half the day and music for the other half. If you are a musician, speak Spanish and fancy a challenge you could be sharing your musical knowledge with at a Brass Band school or a Conservatoire. In both cases you will be a fantastic asset for the school you will be working with.
