When you get back from your volunteer placement, you’re bound to have dozens, if not hundreds of great photos and memories that you’re dying to share with everyone...well here’s your chance!
Each year, Lattitude runs a number of competitions for volunteers. So if you fancy yourself as the next great travel writer, or think you have an eye for a good photo then you could find yourself the winner of one of our cash prizes. It's often easier to think about your entry while you're away, rather than trawling through your pictures looking for a suitable shot after you get back. Here are the different categories, and what the judges are looking for:
Photographic - Your Turn Next
Here, we're looking for a picture which sums up what it means to be a Lattitude volunteer. Charlie's picture at the top of this page was the winner in 2007. We're looking for an image showing Lattitude volunteers in action - really getting stuck in and making a difference to their local community.
Photographic - Spirit of the Country
This category gives you the chance to get artistic and creative - or simply capture an amazing view or moment in the country where you're volunteering. We're looking for something a bit different or special which sums up the essence of your destination. Not easy in one photo, but the standard last year was exceptionally high - so get creative!
Written competition
The exact title will be emailed to all eligible volunteers when we open the competition, but is likely to be similar to last year - "My Ultimate Lattitude Experience." We're not looking for a massive book - the word limit will probably be around 500. Professional travel writers tend to keep notes while they're away, so why not take a notebook with you and jot down ideas.
Video competition
Seeing as most digital cameras have the ability to take short video clips, it was only a matter of time before this category was introduced. Entries should be no more than 2 minutes long, and should capture what it means to be a Latittude volunteer, encouraging others to make a difference overseas. We're not looking for great technical ability - a simple video diary might be an idea, or filming a project you've become involved in.
Good luck!!
