Lattitude Gap Years

Gap year volunteer work around the world has been
Lattitude’s thing for over 35 years. Over 25,000 young
people have taken a gap year overseas volunteer
program before, during or after university with us.

Our gap year travel experience is very different from simply backpacking. When you do volunteer work with Lattitude, we will totally immerse you in the culture of your host country. Working abroad as a gap year volunteer will stretch you so much more than if travelled as a backpacker and our gap year voluntary work programs really make a difference in the place where you volunteer.

We know that to fund gap year travel each volunteer’s ability to fundraise is different. We offer a bursary scheme so that everyone can enjoy a successful and rewarding gap year.

We offer gap year volunteer programs in Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Malawi, India, China, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Vanuatu.

Gap Year travel can be a daunting business, so if you’re selected as a volunteer, we make it as simple as possible, we provide the placements, help with the admin, brief you and support you in country. All you have to worry about is getting the most out of your gap year program.

where do you want to go

With Lattitude you can spend your gap year travelling as a volunteer to 17 countries. Do you want to travel to Australia or New Zealand and volunteer in a school? Fancy a job abroad working in an outdoor centre or school in Canada? Want to do voluntary work or teach in Fiji or Vanautu or teach English in India, China or Vietnam? Interested in Japan? We are one of the few organisations with a voluntary work program there. Are you looking to travel to Africa on your student gap year placement? Then we have teaching programs in South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, or Malawi. Or do you want to discover the real heart of South America? We can send you to Ecuador, Mexico, Argentina or Brazil.

what can you do

The Lattitude gap year program has a wide range of voluntary work opportunities abroad. Our programs are open to all volunteers, although some are especially suited to those with degrees or vocational qualifications.

Volunteers; work as a Teaching Assistant in an English or Spanish Speaking Country; spend their year out volunteering in an outdoor education camp; volunteer on an environmental project; be an English teacher or a general teacher in a developing country or work in a care program in a developing country. These projects will stretch you in different ways, however they all demand enthusiasm, motivation and the ability to muck in when required.

“I never would have thought I’d be able to travel half way across the world when I was just 18. I hadn’t even considered it until somebody from Lattitude did a presentation at my College” Ayo says. “But when I heard I could apply for the opportunity to volunteer, make a difference and travel abroad, all with the support of Lattitude, I signed up that same day!”
